"Healthy Advise to a Healthier YOU!"
"The purpose of our office is to assist each individual in the correction of vertebral subluxation, both originally and on a continuing basis. We do this because of our absolute conviction that everyone's body functions, performs, and expresses health better when no subluxations are present." This is South Shore Family Chiropractic's Purpose. Our main goal is to assist you in attaining and keeping your health at its peak. Some of our recommendations to reach this goal are the following:
First, follow your recommended care plan that Dr. Bill gives you regarding your frequency of care. Again, follow your recommended care plan that Dr. Bill gives you regarding your frequency of care. Don't make me call you on the phone, HA! Second, attend our series of Workshops, it has always been our experience that knowledge empowers people and hastens the healing process. Third, exercise, when you exercise in conjunction with your Chiropractic adjustments, you will find that your spine will improve more quickly and your athletic performance will be dramatically enhanced. We recommend that you do some type of aerobic exercise at least once a day. Please consult with Dr. Bill as to his suggestions of the type of exercise that is appropriate for you.
In addition, eat HEALTHY! What does healthy eating entail? That is a quest that I have been on for years, and I will share with you something that I have fell upon over the past year. I have been a relatively “healthy” eater for some time now, but just when you think you are doing fine, BAM!, you discover you could be doing a much better job of eating well. I discovered a book by Michael Pollan last year and WOW! Has my way of thinking about food and eating healthy changed! I am not going to give too much away, but if you are all interested in understanding more about the food we eat, buy his book, The Omnivore's Dilemma. I guarantee you there is no way you will ever eat or shop for food the same way again! Never! It is not a book to convert you to a certain way of eating, IE, Vegetarianism,
Vegan-ism, etc. But rather it is a book that will
educate you about the food choices that you make everyday in the supermarket and at home. I've also read Food Rules and am digesting In Defense of Food now. And poor Dr. Bill has to listen to me daily report back what I am reading in detail, I am relentless. I think if he eats Grilled Tofu and Melon/Cucumber salad for dinner one more night he is going to starve!
I just want to share the main theme of
In Defense of Food with you. Michael Pollan says, “Eat Food. Not Too Much. Mostly Plants”. Think about that for a while. Honestly now, a little education about what to eat and how to eat healthy will go a long way in developing a Healthier You. Small daily changes to your diet will make an enormous difference to your health, just give it a try.
My dilemma is how to get my 5 year old son to appreciate Cracked Wheat Salad with Peaches and Pistachios or to help him understand why at snack time at school he is eating nuts, seeds and dried fruits while his friends are eating “food like substances” called gummies and Twinkies. Although he loves his snack, why can't he have that other stuff too? Hmm? It's a work in process for our whole family but so worth the effort!
So try to follow our Recommendations and Here's to a Happy and Healthy Summer!
