The Doctors Corner:
“If Subluxations are present in your body you are unable to maximize your Health Potential”.
Subluxation: when one of the 24 vertebrae in the spinal column becomes misaligned it's called a subluxation. Subluxations cause body malfunction (dis-ease) which result in lower resistance to disease, imbalance and fatigue and can pave the way for ill health in almost any part of the body. Subluxations are sometimes referred to as “silent killers” because they can slowly eat away at your health and vitality for years without you knowing it.
Subluxation damage includes the following components:
- Joint Damage: Your structure is misaligned.nYou may not be able to turn your head, hips or other body parts around equally well or as far as possible (reduced range of motion).
- Nerve Damage: There is stress on your nerves. Chemicals and messages that flow over the nerves may be blocked. You may feel nothing or there may be pain or symptoms.
- Muscle Damage: Your muscles are tight, in spasm, weak, overly sensitive and/or sore. Your posture is unbalanced, resulting in fatigue and increased joint wear and tear.
- Tissue Damage: You have tender “trigger points” or painful spots. Ligaments, cartilage, discs, tendons and internal organs may be affected resulting in osteoarthritis or spinal degeneration.
- Overall Body Malfunction: Eventually long-standing subluxations cause your muscles, joints, ligaments and organs to show signs of wear and tear, premature aging, fatigue, less resistance to disease and overall lower physical and mental vitality.
What causes Subluxations? They are caused by falls, birth stress, sports injuries, trauma, emotional stress and bad posture. Subluxations occur at any age. Infants and children especially need to be checked by a chiropractor as neurological and other health problems have been traced to structural damage at birth or in infancy.
Due to the design of the spine, it is susceptible to subluxation. The benefits of subluxation correction are enormous. In addition to alleviating symptoms that may have brought you into the office in the first place, subluxation correction includes significant improvement in overall physical health and mental/emotional health.
Because subluxations are often painless initially, periodic spinal evaluations, 1x per week for Maintenance Care, 2x per week for Corrective Care and 3x per week for Intensive Care are recommended. Correcting silent subluxations today will help ensure greater physical and emotional health NOW and may well save you and your family from serious health problems that, later in life, could not possibly be ignored. Remember, the best defense against all disease is not to develop it in the first place.
CHIROPRACTIC KIDS:
My name is Brooke. I am 3 years old and in preschool. My favorite subject in school is reading – mommy does it! The things I like to do besides getting my spine adjusted are dress up, play soccer, swing on swings. Things I have noticed since getting my spine adjusted are I can run fast. When I grow up I want to be a doctor for babies.
My name is Isabella T. I am 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. My favorite subject in school is math and phonics. The things I like to do besides getting my spine adjusted are bird watching, drawing and reading. Things I have noticed since getting my spine adjusted are I feel more healthy. When I grow up I want to be a nun.
PATIENT HIGHLIGHT:
For the last 10 years I have been volunteering and serving on the board of directors for a New England based 501-c3 non-profit organization named Partners With Haiti (PWH). PWH has many different programs in Haiti, some of which are supported by donors in the United States and some are self-sufficient, run by local Haitian employees. One program that I am involved with is the Bethany Project. The Bethany Project is child sponsorship program where individuals financially support children and young adults to go to school for $25 a month. The majority of schools in Haiti are private and most families unable to pay for their children to receive an education. Since the beginning of this year I have taken on the role of the Bethany Project US Coordinator; my role is to help facilitate communication between donors and children and to find donors for children in need of sponsorship or who have lost sponsorship.
Along with the Bethany Project, Partners With Haiti also offers missions trips. My husband and I recently led a trip with a group of 12 people from Glad Tiding’s Church in Quincy. Our initial plan was to work alongside Haitian laborers and builds a Boy’s Home in a rural village, but because of a hurricane threat, our plans changed and we painted a school, fixed chalkboards and desks, moved piles of rocks for classroom construction and also helped fix broken beds, ceiling fans and desks/chairs at a local Girl’s Home. Working in Haiti has led me to change careers and become a nurse! It is truly an honor to partner with our Haitian brothers and sisters to help children receive an education!
